Welcome to Conshohocken
7/1/2026
by Brian Coll
I woke up a little early today and thought…. I might have time to write something today. Then I thought about all the buildings in our community and all the events. Then I thought about all the newer people that have recently started to call Conshohocken home. Then I thought, why not a general welcome type article with some random facts and info and maybe an opinion or two about where to find the best burgers and such….
Before I get into some random facts, I’ll start with Conshystuff.com and Conshy.com. Both of those names brought you here. We started the website and Facebook page back in 2013 after we wrapped up a book in 2012 where we took at least a photo a day in and around Conshohocken. In addition to that book, we have written a number of other local history and interest books. I am Brian Coll, my dad is Jack Coll and behind the scenes my sister Jackie and mom Donna have both helped us over the years.
We are always using the word community and if you’ve seen our Facebook posts or read any articles here, you will notice we do not stop at the boundaries of Conshohockens one square mile. Our sister borough is right across the river…West Conshohocken. West Conshohocken recently celebrated their 150th anniversary as a borough and Conshohocken just celebrated our 175th anniversary as an incorporated borough. We try to include Whitemarsh township, Lafayette Hill and Plymouth Meeting in our Facebook posts and articles on our website. Whitemarsh has settlers going back as far as the late 1600’s. Conshohocken was once a part of Whitemarsh from the initial 5,000 acre piece of land bought by Major Jasper Farmer from William Penn. One of our favorite restaurants Jasper’s got the name from the gentleman who bought the land. This wasn’t mean to be an entire history lesson…
Back to the word community…. our community is amazing. We are such a caring, generous community. In times of need, for a cause or an individual, we have repeatedly seen our community step up and help. We will put out the call to help at the Colonial Neighborhood Council and people will help fill the shelves. If you are looking to volunteer in our community, you can always look at the Colonial Neighborhood Council Facebook page to see if they need help with the Meals on Wheels program.
Volunteers… that brings me to youth sports in our area. This past year my friend Susan Robinson, former President of Plymouth Little League reached out and we started a gift card drive. It seemed like every youth sport in the area got together to help families in need. Plymouth Little League, Whitemarsh Little League, Conshohocken Baseball & Softball, Conshohocken Bulldogs youth lacrosse, Plymouth and Whitemarsh youth basketball leagues, PW youth rugby. Not only did these local organizations step up, they are all volunteer run. The coach’s all volunteer their time. So…. if you’re ever watching kids play at one of the amazing parks our community has, give the coaches and umps a break.
Alright, if you came to this article to find out who in fact has the best burger…. my personal list.. just one persons opinion…. Stone Rose consistently has a great burger and they go one step further and have an entire week during the year where they have burger week…. the chefs play around with some unique takes on the classic burger. Over the years we have seen duck burgers, bison burgers, chorizo burgers, lamb burgers and more. They always elevate their burgers and constantly use ingredients from their local farm.
Deli on 4th just started smash burgers and they are awesome! Great American Pub and the Boathouse both have great burgers and at the Boathouse I am always torn between fries and what could be the best Caesar salad in the area. If you are at the Boathouse and not there for the wings, I love the fish and chips.
Once again, these are opinions and personal preferences. Cheesesteaks…. top 5 in no order….. Masterpeace Grille, Capp’s, Guppy’s, Great American Pub, Deli on 4th and the new place Pop’s…. okay, that might be 6 places and when you throw in Ye Olde Ale House for their roast beef sandwich it starts a new list…
Okay, maybe you didn’t come to this to find out where one person eats… but if you did… you can’t go wrong. We are so lucky to have so many amazing places. Tell us your favorites in the Facebook comments.
If you are reading this on the day it was published… July is a special month here. On the 3rd of July Conshohocken will have a large fireworks display. In years past we used to pack Sutcliffe park to watch them, now you can pull a chair up in front of or behind your house. The folks that have been here since pre 2000 will remember fireworks at the A and B fields.
4th of July brings the Soap box derby on Fayette Street and a great parade on Germantown Pike in Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill. Go check out both events.
A number of local golf clubs will have their own fireworks displays this week, keep your eyes up in the sky and ears open.
If you are newer in the area and looking for social type events and groups…. We have multiple Conshohocken Running Clubs…. The TK Club has corn hole leagues. We also have the Lanutti Post, Conshohocken VFW as well as the Conshohocken Bocce Club. These all offer social memberships if you want to check out some local clubs. There is an adult prom in February at the Great American Pub, there are trivia nights at a number of local places like FWOT (fingers, wings and other things if you don’t know about FWOT). There is always live music at the Gypsy in West Conshohocken. If you want to see full bands, go check out the Bridgeport Rib House… you have probably seen their award winning floats in the Saint Patrick’s Day parade that rolls down Fayette Street. Speaking of music and the parade, the Paul Moore Band is playing at the Great American Pub on the first Friday of each month.
Conshohocken and Plymouth both have free concerts in the park programs. Plymouth actually has a free movie tonight (Minecraft) and features bands throughout the season as well as movies. Conshy kicks off next week on the 9th with The Wonton Soups. July 16th with our friend Ava DiFiore, the 23rdis Variable Elements. The first 3 concerts are at Sutcliffe Park the 4 weeks after that are at Mary wood park. The series ends on August 20th with The Paul Moore Band.
And…. sticking in the parks and social interactions…. have you heard about Conshohocken Theater in the Parks? It just started this year. They put on a children’s play, the Lion King Jr and are producing The Prince of Egypt set to debut on July 24th. Other shows will take place on the 25th, July 31st and August 1st. Bring your chair to Mary Wood park and support these local folks. They have been working hard to bring this and future productions to the community. Check out their Facebook page for future audition details or how to be part of the crew or even set design and such.
I could keep talking about our community and places in it…. it all really comes down to the people. We have some great people here.
Two final thoughts… we have FREE TICKETS to Conshy Night at the Reading Phillies. The game is July 19th. Stop in Coll’s Custom Framing for your FREE TICKETS.
last thought….. people ask me how they can get involved in the community. A real simple way to make a difference is pick up a few pieces of trash on your walks. Beyond that, go to some events, see if there is something that interests you… talk to some like minded people. Check out the Conshohocken Free Library or William Jeanes Library. Go into one of our volunteer fire companies (you don’t need to run into a fire, there are other ways to help- the folks who do run into fires are special and I can’t thank them enough)
I hope to see you around our community.
Thanks for reading.
