Dear Borough’s and Township’s – Idea for Covanta
by Brian Coll
Dear Borough’s and Townships about to vote on extending your contract with Covanta in Plymouth Township….. go month to month… bear with me here. I think 3 local municipalities are about to vote on what to do with their trash. If all of you leave Covanta, they will feel it. You as the townships and boroughs have the power right now. You have a lot of pissed off residents. You really do. No one, and I mean no one is happy with the current situation.
Tell them…. we have other options, if you want to prove to us these malfunctions of late are a thing of the past and you are not only spending money on what are band aids on the plant but long term solutions and reinvestments in an outdated facility, then let us as customers go on a month to month basis with the future in our hands. Sure, when a tenant at a house goes month to month they generally pay a little more, the townships and boroughs in our area could pay a little more in the short term for this type of a set up, but it also gives all the townships time to figure out what the hell to do.
It’s easy to say…. we’re out, but there aren’t a ton of options, yes there are a few and in the end they may be the best long term solution. Ideally the facility would not be in our back yard… but there are other areas bringing trash here, so our local municipalities leaving Covanta, doesn’t solve the problem, holding them accountable to their local customers (all of us) might be better in the long run.
Just some thoughts…. borough’s and townships, see what you can do. Maybe ask someone who isn’t a paid employee anywhere..
