Conshohocken Baseball & Softball official Opening Day – Today

It’s opening day at Sutcliffe Park for the Conshohocken Baseball & Softball League.
This week I was lucky enough to be coaching my little guys team, and the smile on his face as he took the field, well it filled my tank. I’m not sure which one of us needed it more. Baseball was my first love, while there were some really cute girls in kindergarten at Hervey Walker elementary (now Conshohocken elementary) none of them excited me as much as the green grass and dirt infield. Sorry ladies.
For me, Conshohocken little league holds a very special place in my heart. It’s weird to think that I was my sons age when I started and he’s already played two seasons. I can’t sit here and tell you every kid I played with over the years. I’m sure I’d miss a few coaches along the way as well. I made some great friends on the ball field, both as a kid growing up in Conshy and more recently as an adult playing in some co Ed softball leagues. I was lucky to have my dad as my first coach and it was really cool when he was there a couple years ago as I hit my last over the fence home run, I hit a few after that one that I had to run out… but it was definitely cool he was there to see it go over the fence.
Today, look for some happy kids to be parading through the side streets of Conshy from then Conshohocken Community Center (Fellowship House) down to Sutcliffe Park starting around 9:15. Then opening ceremonies kick off at 10:00 at the Major League Field. Games will take place all day featuring every team in the league.
The current board has done a great job, there are a lot of parents who are involved in the league. Like most leagues, parents help coach, particulary at the younger levels, and then there are some coaches who stick around after their kids are through the league because they are good at it and they can continue to have a positive impact on young ballplayers.
If you are at Sutcliffe Park this season, to watch a game or maybe even play basketball or an evening adult league.. be sure to check out the snack stand, the folks at Our Daily Bagel will have some great items for you to eat. I’m looking forward to it!
Hope to see you at the ballfields.
