Carol, well she got to do something most of us never get to do, buy her childhood dream home, make it a bed & breakfast and share it with the community she loved. I only wish she got to share it a lot longer. Sadly Carol Rutkowski passed away this weekend.
In the above photo, she is with her loving husband Joe and her business partner in the bed & breakfast. There were other photos I considered using, but this one felt right, posing in the bed & breakfast in front of a picture of the bed & breakfast. Joe and Carol bought the building a few years ago, poured their heart and soul into it and designed every aspect of it together. The building will always have Carol’s designs in it going forward.
She was an amazing person. in my conversations with her over the years, it never felt like there was a disposable conversation in the bunch. Probably my most recent conversation with her came the morning after the Conshy Prom, back in February. My wife Anna and I stayed at the B&B after the prom, and the next morning we got to chat. Joe and Carol came to the prom as well and from what I could tell had a great time dancing with friends. So, during our morning conversation the next day, Carol was hoping to get more involved in the prom for next year. She was so generous, the night of the prom Joe and Carol brought a flat screen TV and thought it would be cool if there was a dance contest where the winner walked away with the TV, it was a hit! The dance contest was epic, and it wouldn’t have been the same without Joe and Carol.
Carol, I wish we got to work together on this next prom. I wish I got to chat with you more. I really wish you got to retire from your regular job and operate the George Washington Wood Bed & Breakfast for a good long time. Those of us who got to know you are going to miss you. Your family, your husband Joe, well, I don’t know what they are going to do without you. You were a bright spot for many people.
