The “Other” School Zone

I’m always talking about people needing to slow down in the school zone. The one I see everyday is between 2nd Ave and 4th Ave on Fayette Street. It seems like there are vehicles that go through this area every day during the school zone hours at a higher rate of speed than they should. However, today I want to take a look at the “other” school zone, the one between 4th and 2nd on Harry Street. Harry Street is a one way street heading towards the bridge. It seems like some vehicles use this side street as a way to avoid the traffic lights on Fayette Street.
To the people that use Harry Street anytime between 7:00 a.m and 6 p.m please take it easy. There is Conshohocken Elementary School at 3rd and Harry and Saint Matthews Early Education Center between 3rd and 2nd. Both of the schools have parents dropping off children specifically between the hours of 7-9 a.m. Please be aware of this situation as you drive down Harry Street. Honking your horn isn’t going to move traffic along any faster. Giving the crossing guard a hard time isn’t going to get you to work any faster.
Saint Matthews has a pick up lane that goes into the school area, but there is normally a line around 3 in the afternoon as parents are picking up their children. If you find yourself sitting in traffic, that’s why. If you use Harry Street a lot at that time, maybe you can go around. We’re trying to help out the families that have kids in the schools as well as those of you driving through the area to go somewhere else.
Thank you.
