Listen am I nervous about this Coronavirus, yes I am. Am I going to stop living life? No. Am I going to be smart about this, I am trying. I have two young children and I work with my parents who are in the target range for this virus to affect them.
I’ve been spending a lot more time at home with the kids, taking walks when we can, taking our extra time together to learn, not only what the teachers expect them to learn , but other useful things as well. We made hummingbird nectar today and the kids got to measure water and sugar, they used their hands and had to do a little math along the way…. we’ve had a lot of meals at home together, even cooking hotdogs over an open fire.
Today, the kids were being great as they have been for the week or so this has been going on. They love Edwards Freeman nut factory/candy shop… they were disappointed when I pulled up to the store and we didn’t get out. They were thrilled when less than two minutes later one of the employees they know brought a bag out to us. It was so easy, I called the order in, paid with my credit card and now I have some bribe treats for them….
Last night, it was Wing it Wednesday at the Boathouse and I had to support them. So many of our local restaurants are hurting right now. I called my order in, paid with a credit card and made sure to tip them. Did you know the minimum wage in Pennsylvania for a restaurant worker who has the chance to make tips is $2.83. I didn’t get that wrong, $2.83 an hour. So, I made sure to tip the crew working. Most restaurants right now, if they can do take out or delivery is down to a small crew. Maybe each staff member works a couple days a week for the foreseeable future. That’s everyone… chef’s, servers, hosts…. bartenders aren’t even in the mix… if you can, order an occasional meal out right now.
Tonight, I’m making sure to order my wife a StoneRose burger. I’ll be tipping them as well.
I recently spoke about how amazing our restaurant community is, everyone pitched in to help the kids of our community. This is our chance to help them. I know not everyone is going to be in a position to order out during this time period. (I’ve had oodles of noodles for a few meals already this week to help balance out my take out orders)
We’ll get through this together.
