This is a series of articles where we are going to turn our attention to student athletes at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. The school board has voted to suspend the football season due to Covid – 19 concerns. This series of articles isn’t designed to change anyone’s mind, it is simply to highlight the young student athletes who would have taken the football field for their senior season.
While I am going to focus on the football players (having played from the time I was 5 I have a soft spot in my heart for high school football.) I also have to acknowledge the cheerleaders, the marching band, the crew working the sidelines during the games, the coaches and the parents of all of these facets of a single sporting event. Football also was a place for the students to gather beyond school hours.
For me personally, athletics was and continues to be a place in my life where I have formed friendships, developed social skills, leadership skills as well as how to take criticism and coaching up. Enough about me and my thoughts and opinions. Let’s look at our student athlete.

Hunter Masters
How long have you been playing football?
13 years
So, you have really been looking forward to your senior season. What are you going to miss the most about this upcoming non season?
Most importantly, I am hoping that we have a season! I would be upset if I can’t go to war with teammates every Friday night this season! I would also be upset if we were not able to have Senior Night.
Tell me your position (s) and stats from last year as well as size and speed in case a potential college sees this. Don’t be shy, this is the time to brag a little about yourself.
I am a Defensive End, I don’t have my stats from last year. I am 6’ and 180 pounds, my 40 yard time is between a 4.7 and 4.8. My best attribute is my speed off the ball, it makes it hard for the opponent to block me and this causes disruption for the QB.
Tell me about yourself, hobbies, favorite classes and what you would like to pursue in college/trade school. Have you done any volunteer work?
I work at Plymouth Swim Club as a lifeguard and Corropolese Bakery. When I am not working or playing football, I enjoy playing video games. My favorite class is Film Appreciation. I plan on attending college but I am unsure what my major would be, at this time. I was a Junior Firefighter for Spring Mill Fire Company, but my work schedule, football practices and workouts along with my school work, made it difficult.
Tell us about your favorite coaches and teachers.
Mr. Clarke my 8th grade History teacher is one of my favorite teachers, he got more interested in the class. As for my favorite coach, I would say that it would be my father. He always pushed me and made sure that I was always giving 100%.
Praise for your teammates?
Our team holds each other accountable and we don’t let someone give up, we are always there to pick them up. Everyone comes to practice with the mentality that we are there to get better with each and every practice. We are not there to just mess around.
And finally…. take a minute to tell anyone reading what football has meant to you.
Football has been the constant in my life. It is a healthy outlet that allows me to express myself. Through football I have made friends that will last a lifetime and I know that they will have my back no matter what. Both on and off the field.
