The History of Conshohocken in Slides
Hosted by the Conshohocken Junior Women’s Club
Jack Coll will be the guest speaker at the February meeting of the Conshohocken Junior Women’s Club and will feature his Conshohocken slide show on two screens showing and talking about the history of the borough.
If you’ve never attended one of Coll’s slide presentations it’s a delightful trip down memory lane with Coll flashing the vintage photographs on the screen and telling fascinating stories pertaining to the photos and town.
This will be the second year in a row the Junior Woman’s Club has opened their meeting to include the public for Coll’s slide show.
The Conshohocken Junior Woman’s Club was an unofficial organization as early as 1922. The Junior Woman’s Club officially organized in 1931 and has participated and contributed to many of the town’s leading causes over the years.
The club continues to support Conshohocken in many ways today. Their legacy is the club has served as a role model in many ways to young females who have been served by the club’s educational programs and guidance in developing programs of social interest to women of all ages.
Coll’s program will last between 45 minutes to an hour and he will announce the release of a two volume set of books that Jack and his son Brian have been working on for six years. The book titled “Conshohocken and West Conshohocken—People, Places & Stories” is an 8 ½ x 11 format with each volume consisting of at least 525 pages with more than 800 photographs in color and black and white.
Like last year the admission price is a canned good to benefit the Colonial Neighborhood Council, if you can’t afford the canned good all are still welcome, please join us.

Let’s get back to the photo of the windmill….. is just one of the many cool things that popped up in Conshohocken over the years. It was located at 11th and Fayette and was home to an ice cream shop, a car dealership and a construction office. It was demolished in 1961 to make way for the office building that is in it’s location today. This is the type of stuff that is shown and discussed at the slide shows.
