I know this is still a touchy subject when talking about the Catholic Churches in Conshohocken. This past Sunday the combined parish dedicated the new Saint Matthews Parish Center and Early Education Center. Bishop Michael Fitzgerald blessed the Early Childhood Education Center after a procession from the church. The $4 million dollar renovation was completed late this summer and the school opened up in early September.
As someone who has a child enrolled here, I am thrilled with the renovation and bringing everything under one roof. This is a first class facility that will give our children a head start when going into other school systems. This is not simply a glorified day care. Yes they do have a day care portion, but as the children get older there is a computer class, Spanish classes and such. This is a springboard into having our children more educated by 6 than some adults (including me)
As someone who has loved the diversity of our churches and schools in the Conshohockens, I am still deeply saddened by the recent closings of our other churches. The Early Education Center was using the old school at Saint Cosmas and Damian until recently as Conshy Catholic Early Education Center. I was sad the last day I picked my daughter up there. I had so many friends go to school there.
I’m going to end on a positive note…… I hope the newer residents, who may become parents and raise their children here check out this amazing school. The staff is incredible, amazing, friendly people who care for your children. I feel my daughter has taken leaps and bounds during the course of the past year while going there. She looks forward to going and learning in the morning. She makes friends, learns to socialize and it is surprisingly affordable. I look forward to the day my daughter starts to speak Spanish to me and I have no idea what she is saying…. not sure how that is going to work, but I look forward to it. She loves it there, I love taking her there. There is a line of communication between the staff and parents. At home we try to follow up on what she learned at school. It is a fantastic Early Education Center. I look forward to taking my newborn there in the near future. I want to wish the school and church the best of luck with this new facility.
