Riverbend Cycles and Cafe’s Sadly Closing
1/2/2020
by Brian Coll
Sadly, Riverbend Cycles and Cafe’s are closing. There’s a sale for the next few days, and soon we’ll probably post rental details of at least one of the spaces. But…. here’s the thing. This sucks. Our community is losing not one, but two small businesses. These places should be staples in our community for years to come. On the bicycle end, they were great, offering top notch service and sales. Have a flat tire, go there. Want to rent a bike….. go there. Want to break out your old bike and see if it can be serviced, sure enough, they could do it. Taking a train into the city, stop in the café and grab a coffee, muffin and quick sandwich.
A couple of years ago, we posted a photo of Riverbend Cycles at their first location and said, shop small and local so we don’t lose places like this…. and sure enough, we are losing them. Just a couple weeks ago, I went into the newer location by the bridge and took a bunch of photos and I was hoping to do a nice story on how the old train station has a new life.. here are the photos and we’ll see what happens next with it.
And, sadly here is the official statement from Riverbend Cycles. (I love the last line, as a small business ourselves here in the borough of Conshohocken)
We will be open January 2nd to January 5th to close out the end of the era and offer you one last chance to shop with us.
We figure we should go out in style by offering
40% OFF ALL BIKES and 50% OFF EVERYTHING ELSE.
To everyone who supported us over the years, we sincerely thank you. It was a great honor to meet and serve you all and we wish we did not have to say goodbye. We gave it hell, but it was not enough.
To those who just used us as a bathroom, remember moving forward that you vote with your dollars. Please shop local and support the people who support your community.
