August 12, 2022Recent Gathering to Honor a Head Football Coach
8/10/2022
Recently a number of Archbishop Kennedy alumni, who also happened to play football for one of the most respected coaches in the area gathered at the Great American Pub. The man of the hour was Chuck Rocconi.
If Coach Rocconi looks about as old as the other guys (his former players) in the photos. Chuck’s the guy in the blue shirt above… it is because he was only 21 years old when he got the head coaching gig at Kennedy. He coached for 5 years, from 1969-1973 seasons. Chuck got the job straight out of Delaware Valley College with no coaching experience on any level. He was just 21 years old and built the program on research and trial and error. During his five years, the last four were in the Suburban III league and he won championships in two of those four years. Coach truly built a solid foundation for Kennedy football. In the group photos you will see Chuck in a blue shirt standing behind Vince Flocco. I have to thank Tom Jones for sending us these photos and speaking so highly of his coach. I recognize some of these former football players who were good student athletes at Kennedy (my high school as well) and are now good guys in our community. I’m really glad you guys could get together and share some old stories.
