This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

You know…. a good BBQ sauce just isn’t made in the northern states…. until a few years back when our friend Jared Slater started jarring his aunt’s famous bbq recipe that is. It had been awhile since I saw Jared but when he walked in today to discuss some West Conshohocken history, I knew I had to get some of his sauce again and ask if he would be interested in doing a People of Conshohocken.. and here we are.
So, I asked Jared how long he’s been making his aunt’s famous sauce and he said he really got into it into he early 2000’s with some craft type shows as early trials as early as 2004. You know, before I go any further. Here is the website to Aunt Caroline’s BBQ Sauce. https://www.auntcarolinesbbq.com/
If you’ve never tried it, find a jar somewhere and plan a meal around it.
So, what made Jared want to start making this BBQ Sauce? Well he loved the flavor of it and at some point he got around to asking for the recipe from his mom who had been using his Aunt Caroline’s recipe. He then asked for his Aunt’s permission to give it a try and as you can tell, she was cool with it. Currently you can find these famous sauces all around our area including about 30 Giant Stores, Whole Foods as well as a number of smaller market’s in the area.
The sauces are made in West Conshohocken and have won over fans all over the area. At this point, there are a dozen or so flavors available. Jared is still making each jar, one at a time, and you know something cool? Now mason jars seem trendy, he went into business using mason jars when the other big name sauces came in squeeze tubes.
So… Jared was born and raised in West Conshohocken and in Conshystuff fashion we asked him about his favorite memories growing up here… he was quick to point out summers at MacKenzie park, arts and crafts, box hockey and good friends. He always enjoyed riding his bike through the neighborhood and appreciating West Conshohocken. He was really thankful of all the community support over the years.
Jared, thanks for hanging out today, best of luck with the addition of the Giant Stores in the area. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for reading…. we love doing the People of Conshohocken series. People really seem to like getting to know their neighbors. If you want to get to know some of your neighbors in real life, there is a Conshohocken Adult Prom happening February 22nd at the Great American Pub. it’s a 21 year old + event. 4 hours of drinking, dancing, eating, enjoying live bands, photobooth… it’s a great event with 100% of the proceeds going to our favorite Conshohocken charities, the Conshohocken Free Library, the Colonial Neighborhood Council and the Conshohocken Free Christmas Dinner.
