This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth and Whitemarsh and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

Today I ran into an old friend, Kevin Lukens. You may know him as blind Kevin. If you get the chance to talk to him, I recommend you do. He’s a neat guy. He has been involved in a number of things Conshohocken for his 62 years on earth.
Today we started chatting and I broke out my camera and told him he was going to be on Conshystuff as one of my People of Conshohocken. He said no problem. I asked him a few questions and here are the Q’s and A’s… I asked Kevin how long he has lived in Conshohocken and instead of the normal all my life Kevin told me he has lived here for 62 years… I was pretty sure that’s how old he is and he confirmed my suspicions. I knew Kevin was a member of the Lions Club as well as a member of Conshohocken Fire Company #2 and he is also a member of the Masonic Lodge. I asked him his favorite memory of Conshohocken and his mind went to the Riant Movie Theater, the old Drive in Theater at Ridge and Coldwell Lane. He spoke lovingly about Charlie Hicks Music Store and the old Warrels store around 2nd and Fayette. Warrels was Wal Mart long before there was a Wal Mart… I’m pretty sure you could buy anything there.
Kevin has probably walked these streets more than just about anyone else alive in Conshohocken. He walked to the train for a number of years to commute to his former job in Center City. He just retired this year but that doesn’t mean he is going to slow down anytime soon. Kevin is a very active guy and a Conshohocken treasure.
Before we parted ways, he brought up the last time I told him he was going to be on Conshystuff. I posted a picture on Facebook of Kevin a couple of years ago and people seemed to know Kevin from all over. People that saw him on the train to the city on a daily basis, or people who saw him walking Fayette Street everyday. So if you see this and you know Kevin, tell him you saw him in our People of Conshohocken. Conshy is lucky to have Kevin Lukens. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me today Kevin.
