This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth and Whitemarsh and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

Yesterday afternoon I was working in my shop, a customer comes in the front door so I go to meet with them. Standing at the stores front counter was a young man who goes to Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. He has been in a few times looking to sell an ad for a program book or to keep me informed with some happenings at the high school. Before we even talked about the latest thing he is involved with I decided I would make him a People of Conshohocken. However once he told me why he was here I’m not sure if making him a People of Conshohocken does him justice.
His name is Jason Getchell and he is a 17 year old senior at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. He is involved with a number of things at the school. He started telling me about the Music Abroad Program at the school and he is helping set up a 5K at the high school to create an opportunity for him and fellow classmates to travel to Europe to play jazz and learn more about other cultures and how they appreciate music. He is a lifetime resident of Conshohocken and he seems to an overachiever. I will post the flyer that he brought for the 5K and Community Fair taking place April 29th. Before you check out the flyer, I have to tell you this about Jason…. I asked him what he wanted to do after high school and I was honestly shocked when he told me he wanted to be an electrician. He is currently in an apprenticeship. I for one feel we need more young people who want to learn a trade or two. College isn’t the only answer and I was thrilled to hear how passionate he was about it.
Continuing the conversation, I asked him about some of the things he loves about Conshohocken. He told me it was the events and the character of the borough. He has been to the Car Show, the Funfest over the years, the parades and he sees how people love this borough. He even told me he loves Conshystuff……. I’m not sure if he was trying to butter me up or not, but I already knew I was going to make him a People of Conshohocken.
Thank you for your time Jason, best of luck raising the money and good luck with the Community Fair and 5K.
