This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

I was picking up some tomato pies at the Conshohocken Italian Bakery, along with some hotdog rolls, a special cake and other party supplies on Saturday when I saw a smiling face and thought, I need to see if Evamarie Montemayor wants to be a part of our People of Conshohocken series. She said yes and here we go….
So, I have known your daughter Cheryl for years, I think we grew up along with half of Conshohocken at the Fellowship House.. did you live near there?
Yeah, I grew up by the Casmar Café, caddy corner actually. Proud to be born and raised in Conshohocken.
You worked at the Casmar Café for awhile didn’t you?
Yes, 32 years and I was sad to see it close.
Boy I miss the cheesesteaks at the Casmar. They probably had the best straight forward cheesesteak in the borough for a number of years once Wally’s closed.
And now you are at the Conshy Corner, how long has that been?
A little over 4 years now, hard to believe the Casmar has been closed that long.
What are your favorite memories of Conshohocken?
I miss the outdoor basketball courts at the Fellowship House. I loved having the courts there, seeing kids play.
What do you miss about Conshohocken from your youth?
Walking the friendly streets and going into stores like Flocco’s on credit…. my mom would say… see you on Friday once she picked out our shoes or clothes.
I miss some of the people like George Snear, we had a lot of really good people here in this borough.
While we were just chatting without any questions being asked, we talked about a mutual friend who worked for her family when they had an answering service here. Our friend recently lost her mom and I could tell there is so much warmth in this woman. She enjoyed working with our friend years ago and was really sorry to hear the news. At one point in our conversation I said something about Conshy…. and she was quick to point out it’s Conshohocken. There is a lot of pride here in this borough and we are lucky to have Evamarie Montemayor here in Conshohocken. Thanks for taking a minute to chat with me.
