This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

It was a great day for a walk today, and someone else must have thought so too, I ran into an old friend “Conshy Mike McTamney. We only had a second or two to chat. I took his photo and told him I was doing this, he got a laugh out of it, he told me he would look for it, so I hope I do okay by him. I’m going to do this in two parts.. part one is right now about our quick conversation today, part two will be about some memories from about 20 years ago when we worked together.
So, today when I told him I was doing this on the website he thought it was cool. I asked him how long he’s been in Conshy and the answer was either 20 some years or 27 years…..it could be 27, I seemed to remember him living here for that long, before he was “Conshy” Mike he was “West Conshy” Mike! So, Mike has been here a long time, he seems to be at a lot of community events. When I asked him his favorite Conshy memory, he seemed to have a similar answer as someone else I asked recently….. everything. He said he’s still making memories and loves the fireworks, the parades, the Funfest and other community events.
Like I said, we only had a second to chat. So, now I’m going into my memory banks here…. Some days it doesn’t seem that long ago, other days it feels like the 20+ years that it has been since I worked with “Conshy” Mike and a crew of guys mostly from Conshy. We worked as movers and the ring leader was an old friend Kevin Lesher (rest in peace Kevin). When I started it seemed like “Conshy” Mike was the second in command. Kevin set the jobs up for us and Mike seemed to be the guy at the job who kept things moving smoothly. For some reason, I loved this time of my life, I was in my early 20’s and I was lucky enough to work with some of my best friends. The cool thing was, some of the older guys like “Conshy” Mie got to work with some of their best friends as well. Mike was always working with one of his best friends Jack Morris. Damn the two of them were funny together. While we worked hard for the moving company, we looked forward to breaks and lunch and dinner time because we all got to shoot the shit. Believe me, you put a bunch of old school Conshy guys in a room and let them talk, you will hear some funny stuff. I have a funny West Conshy story that Mike and Jack told one day, I really can’t tell the story here because I just can’t get it right via words you are reading on a screen versus words you hear coming out of Jack’s mouth, when he stuttered! If you see me in person, please ask. Better yet, if you see “Conshy” Mike or his friend Jack ask them to tell you about a Christmas morning back in the 70’s. If they need more refreshing, I’m pretty sure you can ask them about a ride that a police officer gave them.
Mike, damn good seeing you today. See you soon at one of the borough’s events.
