This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

So, I’m sitting out on our front bench yesterday when an old friend Chablis Wootten comes by with her daughter Daysha. We start chatting and the conversation turns to Daysha being a cheerleader with the Conshy Panthers. I’m going to start with the cheerleading… I asked her how long she has been a cheerleader and she was beaming when she said about a year and a half. This Saturday they are going to be cheering for the Special Olympics in our area. They are currently trying to raise some money to go to a national cheer competition. If you’d like to help the girls out, call Amy Duckett Alexander and see what you can do. I understand there are t-shirts available for sponsors. If you are a business person reading this, $200 gets your company logo on their shirt…
Back to Chablis and Daysha… Daysha was so damn cute. I asked Chablis how long ago it was that she was a cheerleader for the Conshohocken Golden Bears. Daysha lit up when her mom told me she cheered for a couple years. In fact she pulled out a little journal and made a note that her mom was a cheerleader. I thought it was adorable. Chablis and I got talking about old Conshy and how we were neighbors at one point years ago. Once again, Daysha started taking notes. When I told Daysha that I knew her Uncle she was shocked. Her uncle Cardwell and I go back a long ways. The Woottens were great neighbors and one of those old school Conshohocken families that I’m happy to see are still here. Chablis is a member of the Washington Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. When I asked her, her favorite Conshohocken memory one of the first things she said was the fireworks at the A Field. She loved being able to walk to the old arcade at 1st and Fayette where Jimmy Johns is now. (once again Daysha made a note that Jimmy Johns used to be an arcade- love this kid) A couple of things she said next were a little outside Conshy, but kids from our era are sure to remember rolling skating out on Ridge or maybe hitting the bowling alley behind Plymouth Square. Chablis and her family caught a few movie at Plymouth Square Shopping Center- yes we had a movie theater and bowling alley at Plymouth Square Shopping Center.
So, if you see these two wandering around Conshy say hi. Maybe Daysha will take a couple notes along the way.
