This is part of our People of Conshohocken series…
We have close to 10,000 people in our borough, add in the residents of West Conshohocken, Plymouth, Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill and we have a large community. Some of the people that will be featured will be well known in the area, some will have just moved into the area, some will have been here their entire lives. Some of them may be business owners, or people who walk around the area, or maybe work in the area. Maybe you know them, maybe you don’t. Everyone has a story. While we are only going to take their picture and maybe ask a question or two, we want to share these stories with you.

I met Carol a couple of years ago at this point. I was visiting the old Saint Cosmas and Damian school and met this wonderful woman. At the time they were getting ready to open a daycare at the old school in addition to the pre school program that was already in existence. They did a fantastic job.
Let me talk about Carol for a minute……. I didn’t know her and she didn’t know me and my family as we toured the facilities that day. She was wonderful, she answered every question with sincerity and had the knowledge and first hand experience to back up her answers. Over the past couple of years I have gotten to know her a little better and my opinion of her since our initial meeting has only strengthened. Her son Tim actually works with her at what is now Saint Matthew Early Childhood Center.
I wanted to talk to Carol about, well, Carol….. but she has a way of making everything about the school that she loves and that is okay with me. My children go there and I am thrilled that someone who loves the school so much is involved with my childrens lives at school. Yes, I call it school. My 3 year old is already learning computer skills and at some point before she leaves there she will have taken some Spanish.
So, since she wanted to talk a little bit about the school I’ll share what we talked about…. Children go there from 6 weeks old up until Kindergarten. There are two programs and the age ranges from 6 weeks to 30 months in the daycare portion and from about 30 months up until Kindergarten in the classrooms upstairs. When I enrolled my daughter there was about 20 little ones in the daycare, with the move from the old Saint Cosmas and Damian to the new Saint Matthews they have increased to 120. 3 new rooms are planned for September…. That also means they are looking for help.
Yes, THEY ARE LOOKING FOR HELP. If you have considered this type of work before, reach out to Carol. From what I understand even part time work will help them out so people can get lunches and such.
When I asked Carol about some of her favorite memories, once again she stuck right with the school theme. She talked about the recent egg hunt at school and the Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. She loves the Breakfast with Santa they have done. She really enjoys the time when the parents just come by to enjoy time with their children. She mentioned the donuts with dad ( I was there, it was a fun time) and looks forward to Muffins with Mom coming up in the near future. She loves seeing the kids dressed up for the parades and really enjoyed watching the kids in last years Saint Patrick’s Day Parade ( this year it was a little chilly for the kids)
As I was leaving, I asked her if there was anything else she could think of….. of course it was all about the school…. she loves the family atmosphere that the school has created. She has been involved with the school for 13 years now and loves seeing kids become big brothers and big sisters and meeting the little brothers and sisters as they come through the school too.
If you are considering reaching out to Carol about working there, here is the direct e-mail for you.
