P-Rents (Band) – Playing the Conshy Prom on February 22nd

I reached out to Chris Saulino, drummer in the band P-Rents. Chris and his bandmates agreed to play the Conshohocken Adult Prom taking place on February 22nd where 100% of the proceeds are going to three Conshohocken based charities. The Conshohocken Free Library, The Colonial Neighborhood Council and the Conshohocken Free Christmas Dinner. I can’t thank them enough for doing this for the community. So, Chris before we start…. thank you. I know you know about the event, but for anyone checking this out who doesn’t know what is happening… the Conshy Prom is taking place February 22nd, and it’s kind of a mix of the coolest wedding you went to without the cake cutting, watching the first dance and you know…. no actual wedding, more like a prom where everyone is there for the same reason, to have fun. We’re calling it the 4 hour cocktail prom because cocktail hour is the best part of the wedding reception! You get to eat, drink, listen to some music, talk with friends and get to meet some new people along the way. Okay.. let’s get to my quick conversation with Chris:
So, Chris, the P-Rents, love the name, how did it come about?
It’s an interesting story. We all had children in a Montessori preschool and a friend of ours was putting together a kid’s band for their school fundraiser. Many of us had put playing in a band on hold as we had all started families. After we played the fundraiser and had such a good time doing it, we decided that we would form an adult version of the band. We thought about a band name and how we meet each other. Parents were taken as band so we did an abbreviation, so you get P-Rents.
How long has the band been together?
We have been together for a little over 5 years. Our kids keep growing up and we have stuck together. I think it is a testament to how close we are as friends and sharing this band together has been a joy for all of us. At times it was a big extended family with all the kids and Sunday dinners after practice. With the help of our spouse and family, we are able to practice and play gigs.
What types of music do you normally play?
We are a rock cover band but do play other genres when necessary. We wanted to be the rock band that keeps you up and dancing. There does not seem to be many bands playing rock covers anymore. Well not as many as there used to be. We always want to put on a high energy show and get people moving. We have a great time when we play out and we have a lot of fun on stage. But we also take our practices seriously in nailing all the parts to the song.
Are you changing anything up for the Conshy Adult Prom on February 22nd?
We took this challenge seriously and added a number of covers from the 80’s and 90’s that are dance covers. We have been practicing this new setlist. We have never played a prom before and really thought about what an 80/90’s band would play at a prom. The P-Rents have played many charity events in the past. But we are excited to help raise money for some great local causes.
I think its great you guys are playing the Prom…. thanks for giving back to the community. Where else do your guys play in the area in case, we want to see you somewhere besides the prom?
