Marble Hall Swim Club (summer is almost here)

We have this great photo of the old Marble Hall Swim Club in our collection and I thought it was a great time to share it.
The swim club was located on Ridge Pike. The swim club first opened on May 19, 1932, the estimated cost of construction was $55,000, nothing to sneeze at considering the country had yet to recover from the Wall Street Depression. It was a premiere swim club in its day, most of the western suburbs and even families from the Main Line would be members or spend a day at the club. An interesting fact that my dad Jack has brought to light on a number of occasions over the years is that during the World War Two years military men and women were greeted at the gate with military discounts and special vouchers were distributed, a one day pass costing 27 cents plus 3 cents War Tax, towels were five cents extra.
I personally was on the younger side when Marble Hall in the mid 90’s when it closed and the property was turned into what is now Sunrise Senior Living. I would have loved to have visited. However, my friends and I were more of the pool hopper type of kids… I’m not sure if we missed a pool on the west side of Conshohocken over the years. (sorry if you saw me jump into your pool late at some point during the night)
Sadly Mermaid Swim Club closed recently as well. I know some country clubs have pool memberships available and you can look into the local swim clubs like PlyMar and the Plymouth Swim Club. I don’t know much about PlyMar, so forgive me. I’ve heard good things though. I can personally attest to the Plymouth Swim Club. In years past they had some fun events planned, not sure what this year has in store with the Covid protocols in place.
Here is their website if you’ve been thinking about joining a swim club: https://www.plymouthswimclub.com/
We didn’t go last year with the concerns from Covid and we missed it. I have enjoyed seeing my kids grow as swimmers the past few years and we have loved it there, very family friendly.
When I started this, I hadn’t planned on bringing up the other swim clubs, but the weather got hot and my mind wandered to swimming… I do need to point out I have belonged to the Plymouth Swim Club and they have an ad on our site. Enjoy your summer folks.
