Last weekend I spent a little time at Guppy’s in Conshohocken. Well, maybe more than a little time. On Saturday morning, I met with a group of people who were working on a mosaic out of tile and grout on the side of the building. Turns out, Robin the owner of Guppy’s had an idea to spread some love…. so local artist Kim Tatum Robbins designed an outline for the crew to follow with smashed tiles…. The first part of it went great with a few people lending their talents to the mosaic. That evening, I asked my kids what they wanted for dinner, and it turns out, they wanted Guppy’s after spending some time there with me in the morning, so we went back to Guppy’s. The atmosphere was great, it must have been about a day before, they had palm trees delivered and they really added something to Maple Street.
Let me tell you about dinner… my little guy destroyed a burger and fries ( I helped with the fries), my daughter got cheesy bacon fries and I had a salad with chicken, avocado’s and strawberries with goat cheese I believe and it was great. I noticed on the menu, that Guppy’s tries to use Pieri farms for produce whenever possible… how cool is that? I love that our local restaurants support one another and our community. We’re really lucky to have this kind of restaurant community.
The next morning, we went back to Guppy’s, to grout the mosaic… what fun. Here is the final result of the tile mosaic:
Here is the group who put the finishing touches and grout on it…
You want to know something about Robin, he is really all about spreading the love. He’s been great to the community. He’s been happy to host events that raise money for charity or for local families with hardships. He created a monthly gratitude dinner at Guppy’s where the money spent on the meal goes into the community through a charity.
This week… Robin enlisted help from his friend, artist extraordinaire Perry Milou for some more ConshyArt…. It looks so cool. Now is the time to check out Guppy’s, they have a massive tent set up, and a number of other tables. Give them a look and show them some love….
