Franzone’s Has a New Look

My daughter and I had a mini date night last night, we went swimming and then it came time for dinner and she was in the mood for pizza. She loves Franzone’s and don’t tell her, but she orders her pizza with mini meatballs, but it’s really their ground sausage. I guess we walked into what is technically the back door by the parking lot and noticed some changes. There was a big screen tv over our favorite booth, which was nice to watch Cole Hamels take the mound for the Cubs against our Fighting Phillies and ace Aaron Nola. The Phillies had a great game (sorry Cole, would love to have you back in Philly next year). We grabbed a soda to share out of the coolers and noticed some big changes at the bar area.
I really liked everything they did, it really opened the place up. It looks amazing.
Before I go any further, I got a little sad at the same time. I have been going to this Franzone’s for about 20 years, and before that I went when it was at the Plymouth Square Shopping Center when it was by Gus Butera Barber shop. I had a favorite bartender at the new place, her name was Katie, we’re going back here a few years since she worked there, but her mom, oh her mom was a saint. I loved going and seeing Eileen Monaghan working as a waitress there. She always had a smile, no matter how busy it got. Sadly, she passed away recently and I was thinking about her and her family last night as I looked around at all the nice changes. You’re missed Eileen.
Before we left, I got to chat with Charles and his son Charles and they were so excited. I have worked with my dad for about 20 years now, and it is a neat dynamic to see them working together. They were both excited to talk about the new space, they just about doubled the amount of seating while adding oh I don’t know a dozen TV’s it seemed. There wasn’t a bad spot at the bar.
Charles, Charles, best of luck with the new space.
