Looking For Help At The “Hullabaloo”
Brian and Jack are working on another book on Conshohocken and vicinity, and over the next few months will reach out for some help giving our residents an opportunity to participate, by providing us with some details for the new publication. When finished, the book will be similar to the “Tales of Conshohocken and Beyond” book. The Tales book, (on sale at Coll’s Custom Framing) is a 450 page book filled with stories about Conshohocken and surrounding communities, with 490 photographs both color and black and white.
We are looking to do a piece in the new book on the former Hullabaloo Club, a club opened and operated for teenagers. The Hullabaloo was opened in October 1966, and was located above Sutcliffe Park at Seventh Avenue and Freedley Street.
On opening night the teenage club featured attractions were the Hullabaloo girl dancers, singer Patrick Adiarte and emcee Joe Niagara.
The club was managed by Connie and Stan Packman, who lived in Havertown.
We are looking for the following things:
We are looking for anyone who ever attended the Hullabaloo and would be willing to give us a written account of their experience as they remember it.
When did you attend?
Who did you go with?
How did your parents feel about the club?
How did your parents feel about you going?
What did it look like inside the club?
What was your experience inside the club?
We’re looking for you to paint a picture of the club and your experience at the club. When we cover this section in the new book, we’re looking to print a page or two of personal accounts at the club, feel free to ramble on about your experience. Your account will be edited and a selected few accounts will be published in the book.
You must E-mail your memories of the Hullabaloo
Or you can drop off your written or typed account
of memories of the Hullabaloo at
Coll’s Custom Framing, 324 Fayette Street.
(Do not send your information on Facebook and comments are closed on this article.)
(Although the new book is slated to come out in late 2014 or early 2015, we would like your response as soon as possible for the layout of the book).
Photographs
Does anyone, anywhere, have any photographs of the Hullabaloo?
Inside, outside, a group of kids who all went to the Hullabaloo?
We have zero photographs, and would like to feature a few photographs of the Hullabaloo,
So anything you might have would be a big help.
Do you know someone who might have a photograph or two, perhaps a nearby resident, parent, does anyone know the family that managed it, or a sibling of the managers, Connie and Stan Packman?
Joe Niagara was a founding jock of the WIBG “Wibbage Good Guys” disc jockey and was very popular along with Hy Lit and Jerry Stevens. With Joe Niagara as the emcee on the opening night of the Hullabaloo perhaps someone took a photo or two of Niagara, it was a big deal back then when a disc jockey made an appearance.
Stay Tuned
We’ll be looking for other information and photographs on a few other topics that will appear in the new book. We’ll keep you informed on the progress of the book throughout the year, look for us on Conshystuff.com for up-dates.
Thank You
