Looking For Help On The Conshohocken Youth Center
Brian and Jack are working on another book on Conshohocken and vicinity, and over the next few months will reach out for some help giving our residents an opportunity to participate, by providing us with some details for the new publication. When finished, the book will be similar to the “Tales of Conshohocken and Beyond” book. The Tales book, (on sale at Coll’s Custom Framing) is a 450 page book filled with stories about Conshohocken and surrounding communities, with 490 photographs both color and black and white.
We are looking to do a piece in the new book on the former Conshohocken Youth Center Once located at 5 East Second Avenue, that would have been above or below the Great American Pub back in the 1970’s.
The Youth Center was big on giving guitar lessons, arts and crafts, and discussions on drug use.
Workers and employees at the Youth Center included Charles Jameson, Paul Wiliams, and William Lee.
A few Things we’re Looking For:
First thing is does anyone remember being there, was it upstairs or downstairs?
We know it was in operation from at least 1977-1980, can anyone expand on that?
Can you name anyone else that might have worked or volunteered there?
We are looking for anyone who ever attended the Youth Center and would be willing to give us a written account of their experience as they remember it.
When did you attend?
Who did you go with?
How did your parents feel about the center?
How did your parents feel about you going?
What did it look like inside the center?
What was your experience inside the center?
We’re looking for you to paint a picture of the Youth Center and your experience at the center. When we cover this section in the new book, we’re looking to print a page or two of personal accounts at the center, feel free to ramble on about your experience and your account will be edited and a selected few accounts will be published in the book.
You must E-mail your memories of the Conshohocken Youth Center
Or you can drop off your written or typed account
Of memories of the Youth Center at
Coll’s Custom Framing, 324 Fayette Street.
(Do not send your information on Facebook)
(Although the new book is slated to come out in late 2014 or early 2015, we would like your response as soon as possible for the layout of the book).
Photographs
Does anyone, anywhere, have any photographs of the Youth Center?
Inside, outside, a group of kids who all went to the Youth Center?
We have zero photographs, and would like to feature a few photographs on the Youth Center,
So anything you might have would be a big help.
Do you know someone who might have a photograph or two, perhaps a nearby resident, parent, does anyone know the family that managed it, or a sibling of the managers, Charles Jameson, or Henry Thompson?
Stay Tuned
We’ll be looking for other information and photographs on a few other topics that will appear in the new book. We’ll keep you informed on the progress of the book throughout the year, look for us on Conshystuff.com for up-dates.
Don’t forget, we’re still looking for firsthand accounts of life at the Hullabaloo, Photographs or anything else that would help enlighten, posters, flyers etc.
Thank You
