Do you Remember Bubbling Springs?

12/20/2020

by Brian Coll

As I wake up on this chilly, snow covering the ground Sunday my mind wanders to my unfinished Christmas list…. one of the things on my list is our family membership to Plymouth Swim Club. I also plan on stopping by Flocco’s, Sanctuary Blu and XTRA Boutique. That first one though, that had my mind going back to the legendary Bubbling Springs.

Let’s face it, if you are my age, a little older or younger, this is straight out of lore.

My pop pop would tell stories of this cool place in the Spring Mill area of Whitemarsh Township. We have photos in our collection of cars parked in the area while young adults swam in the watering hole.

It was the springs that made the mills of this area. Without the running water from the springs, the mills wouldn’t have been able to operate. In the later years, families made trips to picnic around the springs and then with the rise of automobiles, the teenagers and young adults would find themselves at the Bubbling Springs in the evening hours.

It sounds like a place I would have really loved to spend some time at.

Sadly, this is one of the unique things in our area lost to history and as our older generation is leaving us, it won’t even be a firsthand memory. If you read this, and you were lucky enough to experience Bubbling Springs, maybe tell us about it in the comment section on Facebook.

Now for the disclaimer… we listed a few businesses in the article. We like to promote as many local businesses as we can. While our website (which you’re reading right now) has ads on it, the ads are simply there to keep the website going. This is more of a very time consuming hobby than a money making venture. We hope you enjoy reading as much as we enjoy writing.

If this is our last article before Christmas, we wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
