My wife and I walked through a new school about 7 years ago, well it wasn’t really a new school, but it was being repurposed. The old Saint Cosmas and Damian was a preschool after life as an elementary school and at the time of our walk through they were adding a day care. I knew the principle Michelle Borkowski and her family, and my wife and I were introduced to Carol Kearney. Michelle and Carol had put together an amazing day care and preschool program there. Carol described the new space with such energy and enthusiasm. We knew this was where we wanted our children to be when we couldn’t be with them during the day. Over the next few years, I got to see Carol just about everyday. Carol, transitioned into the director role soon after the preschool and daycare moved to the old Saint Matthews school behind the church. Throughout her teaching and administration roles she impacted hundreds and hundreds of students and beyond the classroom their families. Carol understood our community and she would help organize a food drive within the school to coordinate with the Conshystuff food drive. Carol loved her staff and the families that trusted her and the faculty with their children.
Today I spoke to Tim Kearney, Carol’s son. Tim had the unique experience of working with his mom. I’m not sure I got to tell this to Tim while on the phone, but your mom was so proud of you. Tim, we’re thinking of you. After you read the obituary below, do us a favor and share a memory of Carol in our Facebook comment section. The family would love to hear them as they mourn the loss of Carol.
I’ll share a quick tidbit. I’m sure I told her dozens, if not hundreds of times she did NOT, have to call me Mr. Coll. However, every time she did, I smiled, inside and out at her warm laugh as she said it. We both chuckled about it so many times. I got the chance to visit her after she retired this past year from her role as director. She asked about my kids and told me about what her family was up to and how she was enjoying retirement. I have more memories, but the family would love to hear yours. Thank you.
