Officials of the Spring Mill Fire Company # 1 located at 1210 East Hector Street have announced that the one-time annual Spring Mill Fire Company Community Carnival is returning this fall in honor of their up-coming celebration of the company’s one hundredth anniversary early next year. This years carnival is sure to delight residents far and wide for four nights on the fire company property located on Hector Street at North Lane.
Carnival rides and entertainment will be provided by the “Tons of Fun Shows” and the Spring Mill Fire Company #1. The fire company insisted on a local Carnival business with an outstanding safety record and that’s exactly what the “Tons of Fun” company offers from their Douglasville Pa. location.
The carnival will open on Thursday September 14 and will feature Family Night from 6 pm thru 10 pm Friday night from 6 pm. Thru 10 pm. Saturday the fair grounds will open at 4 pm., just in time for diner at the fairgrounds. Tons of Fun will feature the best Corn-dogs on this side of the Mississippi, Large portions of Chicken Fingers, French Fries, Funnel-cake, Deep Fried Oreos Cookies, (It’s about time I tried a few of them) Candy Apples, Pop Corn, Ice Cream among other tasty treats, be sure to come with your appetite, all food is prepared and cooked on the fair grounds.
The company has been around for more than three decades and is owned by David and Benjamin Pfeffer, the family-owned business actually goes back more than half a century. In a phone conversation with David, he promised a wide variety of rides that include adults and children rides. David also stated that the company will be bringing the best games and entertainment to the midway.
According to the Spring Mill Fire Company spokes-person Paul Davis he explained that this is an un-official kickoff for the fire company’s 100th Anniversary to be celebrated early next year. The fire company formed in 1923 but didn’t charter until 1924. He explained that their will be a number of events commemorating the anniversary including a Housing Ceremony later in the fall and a celebration Banquet scheduled for early next year.
Davis went on to say that the company Directors wanted to include as many family friendly events as possible and a Community Family friendly carnival was a great way to kick-off the celebration. “We consider the Spring Mill Fire Company to be like family,” noted Davis. “I think a lot of the area fire companies not only view themselves as a family affair but really are a family. Spring Mill Fire Company is no different, we consider our firefighters brothers and sisters and their kids are everyone’s kids as far as we’re concerned.”
The Spring Mill Fire Company is no stranger to hosting carnival events. The very first carnival hosted by Spring Mill Fire Company was in the fall of 1923. It was a street carnival held on Hector Street in front of the Lee Tire and Rubber Company. The one-day carnival was well received in the community and raised more than $400. For the fire company.
For many years to follow the fire company continued to expand the event and became a well-known Montgomery County event. The annual Spring Mill Fire Company carnivals were extremely popular until they ceased in 1956 due to Pennsylvania State gaming laws.
The fire company continued sponsoring carnivals into the 1970’s and 80’s and have run them occasionally in recent years.
Be sure to visit the Spring Mill Fire Company 2023 carnival, where there’ are memories to be made attending this family friendly event. Enjoy the rides, the food and the midway. But more than anything enjoy seeing and meeting your neighbors and wishing Spring Mill Fire Company a happy birthday.
