The Hooters – On the Goldberg’s

Here is what the episode is about from ABC: “The Hooters” – Adam tries to be funny in class but ends up distracting his woodshop teacher, who nearly injures himself when his tie is cut off so Murray grounds him. Meanwhile, Geoff and Beverly try to become more cultured so Erica will remain close when she decides she wants to attend a Phillip Glass concert but, in the end, they learn something surprising about Erica’s taste in music. 80s band Hooters makes a special appearance, on “The Goldbergs,” WEDNESDAY, JAN. 17 (8:00–8:30 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network, streaming and on demand.
Now, If you are a fan of the Goldberg’s you can probably skip this part….. I have to tell you up front I haven’t seen all 100 or so episodes, but every episode I have seen has me cracking up. One of my best friends Kim told me about an episode with the Philly Phanatic in it, so of course I had to look it up and damn was it good. Since then I have caught a few episodes form time to time and one of my best friends has been in the military and stationed around the world and one of the things we talk about is the Goldbergs. The show seems to hit a perfect time period.
Now, the reason I am writing this…. The Hooters. I saw the Hooters play Archbishop Kennedy. That’s right, the Hooters played Archbishop Kennedy High School. I wasn’t actually going to school there yet, but I still went to the concert with my dad. My dad is pretty cool, I can’t even say the Hooters at Kennedy was my first concert, years before that he took me to see The Band. That is damn cool.
What I always appreciated about the Hooters playing Kennedy, is they could have backed out. They played to a packed house, over 1,300 people. They had their first album out at the time and were gaining national attention with songs like Hanging on a Heartbeat, All you Zombies, And we Danced and more…. even a song that they wrote and Cyndi Lauper sang called Time after Time. It wasn’t long after they played Kennedy that they went on to play, well I think they opened Live Aid down at JFK stadium in Philly.
Now the strange part of all this is….. the Hooters episode will air on January 17th, the Hooters played Kennedy on January 18th, 1985. Knowing the Goldberg’s is set in Jenkintown, I assume the Hooters played Jenkintown High School around the same time they played Kennedy. Or maybe they played at William Charter maybe they did, maybe they didn’t, maybe we have to watch the Goldberg’s tonight to find out.
