Check out all the Great Things the Kiwanis Club is doing in our Community

by Brian Coll

A couple of months ago there was a “give back night” at the Conshohocken Brewing Company for the Colonial Neighborhood Council. I attended with my daughter and sister. It was a nice time, the Conshy Brewing Company always does a good job. We collected a few food items while we were there and the Conshohocken Brewing Company writes a check to the Colonial Neighborhood Council at the end of the event. What I did not expect to happen was a nice surprise from the Kiwanis Club. I had known a few of the members and they showed up with these amazing “birthday boxes” for the youth at the Colonial Neighborhood Council. This is an amazing idea and so well thought out, months later I am still overwhelmed. This is the perfect idea to compliment what the CNC does. Now when families come by to do some shopping, if there is a child who has a birthday coming up, here you go….. a birthday box from the Kiwanis Club! I was excited to talk to my friends Tonya and Lori that night and I said we had to get together to talk more about it. It took some time, but finally Lori and I got to chat more in depth about it and frankly I was doing a bad job taking notes, so I asked her to e-mail me some of what we were talking about. I was still in shock that this happened. I really think it’s a great idea and can be done all year long. Here is what Lori wrote for us:

Celebrate a child with a birthday box! What is a birthday box? A birthday box is filled with the supplies needed to celebrate a child on his/her special day. It includes cake, icing, candles, plates, napkins, tablecloth, party hats, etc. It also includes a card and small birthday gift. Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Conshohocken, our community can have access to them through the Colonial Neighborhood Council. Our birthday box project will be ongoing so that we can continue to supply the necessary items for children in the community to feel special and celebrated on their big day!
If you are interested in helping with the success of the birthday box project, the following items will be accepted at Coll’s Custom Framing or contact Lori at conshykiwanis@gmail.com for arrangements.
1 pkg of party hats (about
1 roll of streamers
1 pkg of candles
1 pkg of cupcake wrappers
1 pkg of party paper plates
1 pkg of napkins (about
1 pkg of party cups (about
plastic table cloth
Kiwanis International brings the world together — one community at a time. Today, we stand with more than 600,000 members in more than 80 countries from Kiwanis to Key Club to Circle K and beyond. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children through local service projects and fundraising. And we have chartered right here in Conshohocken!
Locally, we support the community and the children that live here by raising funds, raising awareness, providing support for a specific need, and mentoring children to have a better and stronger future.
Save the date (Tues February 13) for Kiwanis Mardi Gras 2018. We will be hosting an evening of fun and raising funds. The district is aware of some families going through a tough time currently, but do not qualify for free or reduced meals. The Kiwanis Club of Conshohocken has offered to support the efforts of the Colonial School District to ensure all students have an opportunity to have a full lunch each day. The money raised and donated will be used for the children who need it the most.
We are a group of individuals connected by a love of people and possibilities.
If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, please visit our Facebook page, “Kiwanis Club of Conshohocken”.
You can also contact us at conshykiwanis@gmail.com for more information or to arrange to join us at our next meeting or social event.

I can’t thank Lori and the rest of the gang that is working on the Kiwanis Club. Here are a few photos. In the first photo we have Chris Ciavarelli and Lillian Mateja. In the second photo we have a number of the members of the Kiwanis Club at the Conshohocken Brewing Company.

Thank you to everyone who has worked on this project, and if you read this and want to help out we appreciate it.
